If you have multiple recipes, you might think you need to create separate recipes to map each variant.
Good news—you don’t have to. Our system allows you to map a variant without duplicating recipes.
What would you like the variant to do?
There are 3 ways to map a variant depending on your use case.
Note: Each variant can only be mapped using one method.
1. Add / Modify
Use this when you want to add or adjust ingredients using the variant.
You can:
Add new ingredients, and/or
Modify the quantity of existing ingredients from the base recipe (Adding the same ingredient again will be treated as a quantity change.)
2. Replace
Use this when you want to replace one ingredient in the base recipe with another. The new ingredient will follow the same quantity or volume as the one it replaces.
3. Multiplier
Use this when the variant uses the same recipe as the main product, but in a different portion size. You’ll set a multiplier to adjust the portion ratio for the variant.
This is ideal for catering or packaged products that come in multiple sizes (e.g., single vs. family pack) and where every ingredient in the main product are increased/reduced proportionally.
Map using Modify
Use this option when your variant involves adding or adjusting ingredients. You can do both add (see below) and modify actions together.
Example use cases:
Add sugar level
Add an extra coffee shot
Before you start
Make sure the main product is already mapped to a recipe.
To map using Modify:
Go to the product variant you want to map.
Choose “Add/Modify” as the mapping method.
Add one or more ingredients to the variant.
If the ingredient already exists in the main recipe, changing its quantity will be treated as a modification.
With the Modify option, you can change the ingredient quantity from the main product’s recipe.
For example, in the “Add Shot” variant above, click Coffee Shot to select it and enter a different quantity to adjust the quantity from 1 cup to 2 cups.
To discard any changes you’ve made, click the trash can icon.
In the bottom right corner, you’ll see a Save button. The number next to the "Save" label shows how many ingredient changes have been made using this mapping.
Click Save to confirm and apply the mapping.
Map using Add
Use this option when the variant includes a new ingredient that is not in the original recipe.
For example, for the following variant:
Variant – Coffee Add-on > Almond Milk
You want to add Almond Milk to the recipe, but it doesn’t exist in the main product’s ingredient list.
To map using Add:
Look up the ingredient name (e.g., Almond Milk) in the search bar.
Once selected, it will appear above the main product’s ingredient list.
Enter the required quantity or volume.
After adding, you can review the changes and click Save to confirm. Note that you can do both add and modify (see above) actions together.
Map using Replace
Use this option when you want to substitute an ingredient from the main product with another one.
For example, you want to replace a regular full cream milk with the low fat milk in a variant recipe.
To map using Replace:
Choose Replace as the mapping method.
Select the ingredient from the main recipe you want to replace.
Search and select the new ingredient (e.g., Low Fat Milk).
The system will automatically copy the original quantity to the new ingredient.
Once done, click “Save” to confirm the changes.
Map using Multiply (Base Recipe)
Use this option when your variant is a larger or smaller portion of the base recipe.
For example, if you're mapping an “Upsize” variant, Multiplier (base recipe) will automatically scale the ingredient quantities based on the portion size you set.
To map using Multiply:
Enter the multiplier value (e.g., 1.5x or 2x).
The system will adjust all ingredient quantities proportionally, based on the original recipe.
Once you're done, click Save to apply the changes.
The variant will now reflect the updated portion and ingredient quantities.
